Kate’s Café, a monthly dinner for LGBT seniors and friends, is celebrating its sixth anniversary on June 22. Fittingly, the anniversary takes place during LGBT Pride Month.
SCES Elder Care Advisor Kate Thomas started the café in 2010, and its grown exponentially. The monthly café typically hosts around 70 participants, who come from all over Boston and beyond to have dinner and socialize at the Ryles Jazz Club in Inman Square.
Before her untimely passing in 2014, Thomas was chair of the SCES LGBT Task Force and also fostered an ongoing relationship with Harvard College to provide intergenerational programming for LGBT seniors and students.
