One-Day Volunteering

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) depends on volunteers to make many of its programs possible. We offer the following one day volunteer opportunities for individuals and corporations.

Farmers Market Coupon Distribution

A federally funded program where the Commonweath of Massachusetts provides the SCES’ Nutrition Department with $25.00 coupons that are distributed to low-income seniors for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables from local Farmers Markets. The coupons are distributed from various locations in Somerville and Cambridge by volunteer teams.  Annually, one week in July from 9:30-11:30 am and/or 1:00-3:00 pm.

Summer Produce Delivery Event

Help deliver fresh farm produce to about 85 home-bound seniors once annually in July.  We look for volunteers able to drive their personal vehicle along a delivery route in Somerville or Cambridge.  A rewarding experience for volunteers interested in nutrition relief, this event is made possible by the USDA Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program.

Thanksgiving Meals-On-Wheels

Approximately 15 teams (a runner and driver) are needed to deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors. This event is popular with people who are looking to do something meaningful and show thanks for their own blessings.  Annually, on Thanksgiving morning from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm.
