Liebhaber Scholarship supports elder services careers

Applications are now open for the Jordan Liebhaber Scholarship, which furthers the professional development of young adults who want to pursue a career in working with elders.

The scholarship typically pays for things like certificate programs, supplies for school if you’re majoring in something related to aging, conferences, and professional association memberships.

While Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) administers the scholarship, applicants do not need to be affiliated with SCES in any way. Eligible applicants just need to be between 18 and 30 years old.

About the Joran Liebhaber Scholarship

Jordan Liebhaber initially began his service work as a teenager by volunteering with his dad as a hospice visitor at the Tippett Home in Needham. After graduating from the University of Miami he returned to his interest in helping elders as a patient and family advocate in nursing homes, quickly expanding his dedication by volunteering frequently in the Greater Boston Jewish Community at charity events. Jordan treasured his job as the Assistant Administrator at the Chelsea Jewish Home Assisted Living Residence. He had an intuitive sense for what was important and manifested it in his humble, gentle and caring way. He was a joy and light to all who knew him.

Jordan’s parents, Ruven and Gail Liebhaber, established the Jordan Liebhaber Scholarship Fund to honor Jordan’s memory and to carry forward his clear values and good works to help make the world a better, more caring place for elders. They have asked Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services to administer the fund.
