The White House FY18 budget proposal includes cuts to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which could affect home delivered meals in many communities.
While we are concerned about the potential impacts in other communities, SCES does not receive CDBG funding for Meals on Wheels and we do not anticipate that delivery in Cambridge and Somerville would be impacted by this proposal.
Somerville Cambridge Elder Services is committed to providing information for the public about programs that support independence and well-being in a community setting. Many of those programs receive government funding, and will relay new developments to our communities, as information becomes available.
The National Association for Area Agencies on Aging (N4A), issued the following analysis of the budget proposal.
The Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services Meals on Wheels program served 1,456 individual clients in Fiscal 2016, providing 249,939 meals during that time frame.
