Dear Friend:
I hope this message finds you well. This is a difficult time, with much uncertainty. Yet there are some reassuring constants, and I have been inspired by the many people who are stepping up to help in this time of need.
The Volunteer Programs at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) have seen much of that spirit in recent weeks. We saw a surge of new volunteers when the pandemic was declared. This is fortunate, because they have been more essential than ever in recent weeks. Meals on Wheels deliveries, emergency meal drop offs, and reaching out to isolated older adults— these are just a few ways our volunteers are making a difference.
All of this aligns with the central mission of our volunteer programs: providing supports that are crucial to maintaining health and well-being, but not covered by state or federal funding. Your support is what makes it possible, whether it’s emergency relief or ongoing programs such as Medical Advocates, Evening and Weekend Meals-on-Wheels, and Money Management assistance.
Giving Tuesday Now is a global day of generosity and unity, a day to come together and give back in response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. By making a tax-deductible donation to SCES you are providing support where it is needed most, and making a difference in the lives of our older friends and neighbors. Your support is urgently needed to continue offering these essential services. Please consider donating $25, $50, $100, or whatever you can give.
Thank you for your support. Together we will get through this.
Sincerely,
Paul Hollings
Executive Director
